Our Goal — Proven Products / Focused Treatments

We have all seen radiant, youthful appearing skin and wished that we could take a pill and have it. Unfortunately, by the time many of us take seriously the application of sunscreens and moisturizers, much of the sun’s ultraviolet affects have already taken their toll.

We are fortunate today in that we have many devices and products that can help improve our complexions. It is our goal at Surgical Dermatology Group to help you choose from the thousands of products and procedures that are offered, many of which have no scientifically proven effectiveness.

The treatment of skin complexion is determined by what aspects of your skin are most troublesome to you, and then we will devise a treatment plan together that addresses those particular issues. There is not a one size fits all approach to complexion. The fundamentals of complexion begin with a daily use of moisturizers and sunscreen. We have a variety of products available, which we personally use and believe in, but can also make recommendations for products that can be easily obtained over the counter in many drug stores.

Acne Treatments

The next step is the use of a retinoid such as Retin-A, Avage, or Differin. Retinoids are useful not only for treating acne but have also been demonstrated to significantly improve fine lines and some pigmentary abnormalities with regular use. We will work with you to devise a skin care regimen that best suits your needs and your skin type. There are also many procedures available to treat your specific concerns. Light brown spots and redness are particularly well treated with our intense pulse light.

Photo rejuvenation with IPL is a fantastic option for many patients as it is a minimally invasive procedure with very little down time and can be used to treat the face, chest, neck, arms, and hands. We have a variety of other lasers available to treat other specific problem areas such as superficial veins not amenable to treatment with sclerotherapy, brown spots, or tattoo removal.

Brown Spots and Fine Wrinkles

Chemical peels provide a great way to improve complexion. Patients love the “lunchtime peels” with very little downtime. Dr. Harmon trained with Gary Monheit, who discovered the 35% trichloroacetic acid/Jessner’s acid medium depth chemical peel. This procedure has more downtime associated with healing, but is still the gold standard for treatment of brown spots and fine wrinkles on the face on the face and has yet to be replaced by any laser therapy.

In summary, there are a myriad of products and procedures advertised to improve your skin complexion. We will help you navigate these waters being a source you can trust and we look forward to helping you look your very best!
