Who We Are

Surgical Dermatology Group was founded in 2009 by Dr. Chris Harmon. The practice was built on a foundation of highly skilled dermatologists and surgeons who share a passion for service to our community. We offer care in many rural areas of Alabama that would otherwise lack access to dermatologic or skin cancer care. Our desire to help those in need extends to medical mission work around the world.

We believe in serving our patients with hospitality and generosity. We exhibit compassion, kindness and empathy for our patients throughout their diagnosis, treatment and healing. If you find yourself or a loved one in need of dermatologic care, we are here to support you.

The Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology Fellowship Program offers an intense, broad-based training experience in dermatologic surgery. Under the direction of Dr. Chris Harmon, the Mohs fellowship year includes training in Mohs micrographic surgery, laser surgery and cosmetic surgery. Most surgery takes place at an outpatient dermatologic surgical center. However, training also includes outpatient plastic surgery, study of tissue samples and work in rural locations.

SmoothRock is a multidimensional facility serving a community of people through complementary brands and collaborative entities — all working together to heal the body, transform the mind and restore the soul.

Outside of the office, many SDG team members are proud to participate in mission work every year. Our specialists share their expertise by serving on medical missions across the globe, from underserved areas in Alabama to similar areas in Peru and beyond. Our mission work also includes a working farm and event space on Alabama's Lake Martin that creates activities to cultivate spiritual growth and renewal.
