Doctors

Chris Harmon, MD

Dr. Christopher Harmon has been performing Mohs surgery and practicing Aesthetic Dermatology in Alabama since 1997. After graduating from Mississippi College in 1986, he attended Tulane University School of Medicine. He performed a transitional internship at Charity Hospital in New Orleans in 1990. He then began his dermatology residency at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. Following his residency, he served as a board-certified dermatologist in the United States Air Force at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, Mississippi, from 1994 to 1997.

His research interests include wound healing, skin cancer, cutaneous laser surgery, and dermabrasion. Dr. Harmon has co-authored a Mohs and reconstructive textbook, written numerous chapters in other surgical texts, as well as peer-reviewed scientific papers on Mohs surgery, reconstructive techniques, dermabrasion, and laser skin resurfacing. In 1995, he received the Young Investigator Award as presented by the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery for his work with the ultrastructural and immunohistochemical changes following dermabrasion of facial scars. His lifetime academic achievement is reflected in his election to the Noah Worcester Society and the American Dermatologic Association. He is also a Past-President of the Alabama Dermatologic Society.  He is the director of an ACGME fellowship in Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology and has trained more than 24 surgical fellows that now practice Mohs surgery in both academic and private practice settings across the country.

Dr. Harmon served on The American Society for Dermatologic Surgery Board of Directors from 2003-2006. He then served on the Board of Directors for the American College of Mohs Surgery from 2010 to 2013.

In 2007, he was recognized for excellence in volunteerism by the American Academy of Dermatology for his medical mission work and church planting activities around the world. For over ten years, he has served on the board of e3 Partners Ministries, a medical church planting ministry based out of Plano, Texas. Dr. Harmon is also currently Chairman of the Board for New Water Farms Ministries located on Lake Martin.

Jonathan Cappel, MD

Dr. Cappel attended the University of Wisconsin – Madison where he graduated with a degree in bio¬medical engineering. He then attended Pennsylvania State College of Medicine in Hershey, Pennsylvania, where Dr. Cappel completed his internship in inter¬nal medicine and his dermatology residency at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. During his dermatology residency, he received the Mayo International Health Program Scholarship and spent one month working in dermatology in São Paulo, Brazil.

Additionally, he was involved in multiple research projects regarding a number of different dermatologic conditions and as a result, he has attended and presented research at numerous dermatology meetings. Dr. Cappel completed a Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology fellowship with Surgical Der¬matology Group, where he received advanced train¬ing in the management of skin cancer with the Mohs micrographic surgery technique. He is a member of the American Academy of Dermatol¬ogy, the American College of Mohs Surgery, and the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery. In his free time, Dr. Cappel enjoys spending time outdoors with family and his dog Abbie, traveling, and being physically active. He additionally has also traveled to the Amazon region of Peru as well as other South American counties for several medical mission trips. He is now accepting new patients in general, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology.

Brian King, MD

Dr. Brian King is a board-certified dermatologist and fellowship trained Mohs surgeon. He completed his residency at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota and excelled in medical, pediatric, surgical, and procedural dermatology. During his Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology Fellowship with Surgical Dermatology Group, Dr. King received advanced training in the management of skin cancer with the Mohs micrographic surgery technique.

Prior to his dermatologic training, Dr. King graduated magna cum laude with a degree in biochemistry and molecular biology from Cornell College. He received his medical doctorate with research distinction and many coursework honors at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. He then completed his transitional internship at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Advancing the field of dermatology through research is important to Dr. King. He has published peer-reviewed articles in both medical and surgical dermatology. He has presented his research findings at national and international conferences. He is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery. Outside of the office, Dr. King enjoys spending time with his wife, four children, and two dogs. He has a passion for community involvement and has volunteered for many organizations including Church of the Highlands, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Children’s Cancer Connection, and the Out of the Sun Run. He enjoys an active lifestyle and is an enthusiastic football fan. Dr. King is currently accepting new patients in general, surgical, pediatric, and cosmetic dermatology.

Leonard Terry Pynes, MD, FAAD

Dr. Pynes was born in Dothan, Alabama, and has spent most of his life in Alabama. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama. He then received his Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the College of Medicine of the University of South Alabama. Dr. Pynes completed residencies in both internal medicine and dermatology in Birmingham Alabama. He is board-certified in both Internal Medicine and Dermatology. 

He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. Memberships Include the American Academy of Dermatology, Alabama Dermatology Society, American Medical Association, Medical Association of the State of Alabama, Florida Medical Association, Madison County Medical Society, pending, and Houston County Medical Society.

John Wuennenberg, MD

Dr. John Wuennenberg completed his undergraduate degree at University of Missouri-Columbia with a BA in Psychology and a Minor in Biology. He went on to Medical School at the University of Missouri – Kansas City. After his graduation, he finished his internship at SSM St. Mary’s Hospital, St. Louis, MO in Internal Medicine. From there, he completed his residency at the University of Missouri-Columbia in Dermatology.

He fulfilled his Edward A. Krull Cutaneous Oncology Fellowship training at the Henry Ford Health System Dermatology Center. Additionally, Dr. Wuennenberg was involved in multiple research projects where he analyzed data and studied patients. He is affiliated with the American Academy of Dermatology, American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, Missouri Dermatologic Society, Michigan State Medical Society, American Contact Dermatitis Society, and the American Medical Association. Dr. Wuennenberg’s volunteer activities range from grooming thoroughbred horses to providing primary care during medical missions to providing monthly health screenings for underserved & uninsured populations. He enjoys spending time in Michigan with his family, competing in amateur golf tournaments, and following thoroughbred horse racing. He is now accepting new patients in general, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology.

William Farmer, MD

Dr. William Farmer received his bachelor’s degree in both biology and business administration from the University of Richmond. He went on to earn his medical degree from Georgetown University School of medicine and his Internal Medicine Prelim from the University of Maryland Medical Center. He was Chief Resident in Dermatology at West Virginia University. Dr. Farmer has written multiple publications about various dermatologic conditions.

From serving at soup kitchens to journalism and social media marketing, Dr. Farmer likes volunteering in his spare time. He enjoys scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef, designing craft beers, and hiking the Great Walks in New Zealand and the Alps in Bavaria. He is now accepting new patients in general, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology.

Thomas Alexander Harrison , DO

Dr. Thomas Alexander Harrison is a dedicated dermatologist with a passion for providing exceptional care. He completed his dermatology residency at the HCA Healthcare/USF Morsani College of Medicine, Largo Medical Center Program, where he continues to expand his expertise in medical and surgical dermatology. Dr. Harrison‘s educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Biology from The University of Alabama, where he graduated summa cum laude, and an Osteopathic Medical degree from Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM).

Dr. Harrison’s commitment to advancing dermatological knowledge is demonstrated through his numerous publications in esteemed journals such as the Dermatology Online Journal and JAAD. His research interests encompass a wide range of topics, including intralesional 5-fluorouracil treatment, skin of color representation in dermatology textbooks, and the treatment of Hailey-Hailey disease. Additionally, he has presented his findings at conferences such as the American Academy of Dermatology Annual Meeting and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery Annual Meeting.

In his spare time, Dr. Harrison enjoys engaging in various hobbies, including golfing, fishing, bird hunting, skiing, and traveling. He finds balance in his life by participating in these activities and also takes pleasure in watching sports. Dr. Harrison combines his expertise, dedication, and personal interests to provide comprehensive and compassionate dermatological care to his patients. He is now seeing patients at the following locations – Decatur, Liberty Park, Gadsden, Alex City and Montgomery.

 

Christopher M. Heath , DO, MPAS

Dr. Christopher M. Heath, DO, MPAS, is a highly skilled dermatologist specializing in medical and surgical dermatology. He obtained his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and holds a Master of Physician Assistant Studies from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. With a strong background in both osteopathic medicine and physician assistant studies, Dr. Heath brings a comprehensive approach to patient care.

After serving as a resident physician in dermatology at Saint Joseph Mercy Health System, Dr. Heath is committed to providing exceptional dermatological care. He has published research papers in esteemed journals such as Clinics in Dermatology and Dermatology Online Journal, covering a wide range of topics, including the utility of scribes in the academic dermatology clinic and the dermatological manifestations of COVID-19 infection. Dr. Heath is also an active member of professional organizations such as the American Academy of Dermatology, American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Dr. Heath enjoys travel, hiking, cooking, and engaging in sports like golf and ice hockey. He finds fulfillment in spending quality time with his wife and their Bernese Mountain Dog. Dr. Christopher M. Heath is dedicated to delivering exceptional dermatological care while continually advancing his knowledge and expertise in the field. 

Seth M. Martin, MD

Dr. Seth M. Martin is a distinguished dermatologist with a versatile background. Graduating magna cum laude with distinction from Greenville University, he pursued his medical journey at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, graduating in 2019.

Dr. Martin’s research prowess shines through numerous publications, book chapters, and presentations, covering topics ranging from ototoxicity to dermatologic manifestations. Dr. Martin’s commitment to collaborative learning is evident in his active membership in esteemed medical organizations. His affiliations include the Gold Humanism Honor Society, American Medical Association, Medical Dermatology Society, American Academy of Dermatology, and Virginia Dermatology Society. Such active engagement is a testament to his commitment to staying abreast of the latest developments in the field.

While his professional life thrives in dermatology, Dr. Martin’s interests extend beyond medicine. An accomplished pianist, pyrography artist, and a lover of outdoor activities like mountaineering, mountain biking, and snowboarding, he exemplifies a well-rounded individual. Dr. Martin’s pursuit of close-up card magic further highlights his passion for mastering unique skills.

Jamie Gober, PA-C

Jamie Gober is a PA-C, offering General Dermatology services at the Liberty Park location. She studied nursing at the University of Alabama in Hunstville. She loves animals and being outdoors.
With her expertise in dermatology and her passion for patient care, Jamie is a valuable addition to our team. She brings with her a wealth of experience in treating various skin conditions and helping patients achieve healthy, radiant skin.

 

Stacy Davidson, CRNP

Stacy Davidson attended Auburn University and received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1997. She received her Master of Science in Nursing with a concentration in Family Nurse Practitioner in 2011, from the University of Alabama in Birmingham. She is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners as a Family Nurse Practitioner. 

She also maintains memberships in the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and the Dermatology Nurses Association. Stacy serves our patients at Surgical Dermatology Group by providing routine general dermatology care and surgical follow up as well as many common dermatology procedures.
Stacy is married with twin children, Sam, and Kellie. Her husband, Jim, is a Professor of Civil Engineering at Auburn University. She currently resides with her family in Auburn, AL. Her interests include horseback riding, travel and spending time with her family and pets.

Patrick Nelson, PA-C

Patrick Nelson is a Physician Assistant. Having grown up in Coffee County, AL, Patrick truly feels at home in Dothan. Patrick graduated summa cum laude from Troy University in 2006 earning a bachelor’s degree in biology. He also graduated summa cum laude from the Physician Assistant’s program of The University of South Alabama in 2009.

 Patrick is married to Hannah, who is a native of Dothan and a local high school English and Rhetoric teacher. They are actively involved members at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. They enjoy running half marathons and going on mission trips. Patrick is an avid reader and lover of all outdoor activities and sports.

Bradley Maddox, CRNP

Bradley Maddox was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. He received his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Jacksonville State University. Bradley received his Master of Science in Nursing with a concentration in Family Nurse Practitioner in 2018 from The University of Alabama in Huntsville.

He is board certified by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. Bradley has also served as an adjunct clinical instructor at Jefferson State Community College.

Bradley serves our patients at Surgical Dermatology Group by providing routine general dermatology care and surgical follow up as well as many common dermatologic procedures.

Claire Jones, CRNP

Claire is a Certified Nurse Practitioner. She graduated from Auburn University in 2011 with a degree in Biomedical Science. She then went to the University of Alabama at Birmingham and earned her degree in Nursing. Upon completion, Claire earned her national certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

Jessie Blackmon, CRNP

Jessie Blackmon was raised in Huntsville, AL. She graduated summa cum laude from Auburn University in 2017, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She was heavily involved on campus as a member of the Auburn University Danceline and served as Miss Auburn University. Jessie was the recipient of the Student-Faculty Award given by the nursing school professors demonstrating her commitment and dedication to the profession of nursing.

Jessie received her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a concentration as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2020. She is board certified through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

Jessie is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and Central Alabama Nurse Practitioner Association. She serves our patients at Surgical Dermatology Group by providing routine general dermatology care, surgical follow-ups, and many common dermatologic procedures.

Jessie resides in Birmingham, AL with her husband, Phillip. Outside of the office she enjoys spending time with her family and traveling. Jessie also participates in medical mission work, and her most recent experience was spent in Thoman, Haiti.
